Why Business Matters to God

What an empowering business video this has been. It is not every day that we get to
be engage in such a Godly or Christian perspective on how to do business and why business
is done.
For the last couple of years, I have struggled immensely on the thought of running a business.
I believe I was empowered to do so, but I never desired to sell goods or products in order to
generate revenue, which is the opposite of what a business is. Personally, it seems very
selfish and unfulfilling for myself to operate a business with such mentally. However, after
watching this video it makes sense as to why I have struggled for so long on the type of
business I would like to create. Serving is an aspect of me that I enjoy, it satisfies my purpose
and makes me feel accomplished by providing excellency to the people around me.
This video on “why business matters to God” has opened the horizon to a different
perspective. It shared that God cares about business and he also cares about things in which
many people struggled with, materialistic things and moeny. Many within the Christian
journey have expressed that money is evil. However, the scripture does not say that, instead it
elaborates that the “love for money is the root of all evil”. (1 Timothy 6:10, NIV, 2012) In
other words when money is the purpose to why you do things there are no clear boundaries to
where decisions are limited because the love for money can make you do reckless things,
regardless if it
means making unethical or immoral decision to feed the addiction of receiving money to
satisfy the need.
, After, dwelling in the information that was provided by the video, it was very clear
that the “business is business” phrase can sometimes mean I don’t have to get personal or
worry about someone else’s feeling or the way everyday decisions are made because of this
particular mindset. This can way of thinking can be a very detrimental mentally. The business
Godly statement that was provided in by Jeff states “Business exist to create opportunity for
individuals to express aspects of their God given identity in meaningful and creative work”.
(Duzer, 2012) The statement further expresses the need to be fulfilled within serving and
bringing forth the best part of you, while working for a common mission that will lead to a
better world. It also expounds on the reasoning behind employment. Before we decided to
partner up with an employer we should questions, Would I enjoy this line of work and if so,
can I put my best work forward and be satisfied after doing so? This is imperative because as
Jeff shared there has been a “meaning crisis” growing through the years where people are
struggling to put their best work forward. They either desire more, do not feel appreciated/
valued or may be focusing on the aspect that they go to work for the money, which may not
be enough to sustain them in that place mentally or physically. Instead we should engage
with the mindset that I am here to do great work and to produce something greater.
