Dialectical Tensions
Give this one a try later!
There are dialectics in relationships that have to do with contradictions
within how we want to be. Ex. Do we want to do better at school or have
more fun?
- Autonomy vs. Connection: do you want to be alone or more connected
with people?
* Autonomy: the need to be independent and alone
* Connection: the need to want to make friends and be with people
- Expressiveness vs. Privacy: do you want to be more open or private?
* Expressiveness: a lot of times we have the desire to disclose things about
ourselves and get stuff out of our chest
* Privacy: a lot of times we do not want people to bother us because it is
none of their business
- Change vs. Predictability: we have a lot of cravings for change but if we
get too much change we want predictability.
* Change: you can't wait for a change
* Predictability: stuff that remains the same, predictable
We have to think about relationships and how connected we are with each
other and with other things
