PAPER 2026 QUESTIONS WITH SOLUTIONS

⩥ BUD BURST. Answer: Buds opening and growing shoots will need
an average temperature of 10 C.
It happens during spring (March-April/Sept-Oct) but Timing will depend
by many factors such as air, soil temperature, continentality, variety and
weather conditions.
If temperature raises around the end of winter followed by a drop this
will cause bud burst and newly opened buds will get harmed by cold
temperatures right after which could create a huge problem.
⩥ SHOOT/LEAF GROWTH. Answer: The vine needs enough
carbohydrates, water, sunlight, warmth and nutrients. Water stress and
low carbs levels from the previous season will highly affect it. This is
because early shoot growth is sustained by carbs stored in the trunk,
arms or roots.
⩥ VIGOUR. Answer: Vegetative growth of vine such as leaves, shoots.
If not controlled water and nutrients could be diverted to it instead of
focusing on grape ripening leading to lower yields or unripe grapes.
Water stress, canopy management and nutrients control are great ways to
control it.
, ⩥ FLOWERING. Answer: Happens about 8 weeks from bud burst and it
needs minimum temps of 17C.
Flowers open up and can be fertilized to successfully create grapes.
⩥ FRUIT SET. Answer: Flowers turn into grapes, about 30% of it will
turn into grapes.
Needs average temperatures of 26-32C and cold, rain or wind will
greatly impact it leading to irregular fruit set.
⩥ BUD FRUITFULNESS. Answer: Amount of inflorescences that will
develop from a bud.
Compound buds shading, water stress and nutrient deficiency during
flowering will all impact next year bud fruitfulness therefore yields.
⩥ POLLINATION. Answer: Transfer of pollen from the stamen falls
into the stigma creating pollen tubes connected to the flowers ovary,
fertilizing it and creating grapes.
⩥ COULURE. Answer: Ovule fertilization doesn't happen so there is a
higher percentage of flowers over grapes. Some couture is normal but
excessive can drastically lower yields.
