Nursing is a job experiencing new problems each day though a lot of managers testify
facing same ethical dilemmas. From the latest study, most of the occurring ethical dilemmas they
face are protection of patient’s rights, policy making, complex care planning and recruitment.
Worst of all is a high number of entrant nurses without skills, majority having faced no ethical
issues in the field. These problems make the skilled nurses in management to be more keen in
healthcare. This study will therefore dissect more on these situations faced by nurses.
Concealing information to close people. Even though patients have the rights to have
knowledge of their medical state, closest people to the them especially the members of the family
could wish to withhold the information in order to reduce the emotions. Making the decisions on
how to inform them, more so when it’s against the societal beliefs, can be very problematic.
American Nurses Association (ANA) promote honesty as an essential element in relationships
between nurse and patient.
Religious hindrance is one of the ethical dilemmas. Nursing relying solely on science, there
may arose the obstruction from spirituality and personal beliefs. There are religions that inhibits
medical interventions and other techniques of saving lives. Contrary to nurses who concentrate
on healing of the patients, some families emphasize on adherence of certain strict rules. Code of
Ethics by ANA dictates respect of the variance of distinctness of the patient’s livelihoods and
religious beliefs. Such respect should not be taken as nurses permits such practices.
High cost of medical resources. Nurse managers face a challenge in the escalation of the
cost of healthcare from their limited budgets and patient’s necessities. Patients are at high
chances of not getting best services due to less medical instruments in many medical facilities.
