,1. INTRODUCTION
Dear TPN2602 student
In light of growing concerns and increasing challenges regarding Teaching Practice during the
national lockdown, the following has been done in an attempt to assist students who are
struggling to complete their full 25 days of school-based teaching practice.
IF YOU ARE ABLE TO/HAVE ALREADY COMPLETE(D) YOUR 25 DAYS OF TEACHING
PRACTICE (TP) AND CHOOSE TO RATHER DO SO, THEN YOU CAN IGNORE THIS
LETTER.
The following options (Option A to Option D) are VOLUNTRAY SUBSTITUE OPTIONS that can
substitute up to a MAXIMUM of FIVE (5) school-based teaching days per option.
YOU MAY CHOOSE A MAXIMUM OF TWO OF THE OPTIONS BELOW contributing a total of
10 days.
This work must be of high quality.
If poor quality work is submitted, YOU WILL NOT BE ACCREDITED WITH THE TEACHING
PRACTICE DAYS, AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE MODULE.
You may not substitute more than 10 (TEN) school-based teaching days in total, and you must
still complete the remaining days of your teaching practice (at least 15 days) at a school. You
can choose to complete these substitute options below as an alternative to a maximum of TEN
(10) school-based teaching days, OR you can choose to complete the TWENTY FIVE (25)
school-based teaching days as per your portfolio and the initial requirements set out therein if
you are able to, and have a school that will accommodate you.

2. POSSIBLE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ’S):
I am able to complete my full 25 days of Teaching Practice. Must I still complete these
substitute activities?
No. These are VOLUNTARY options and activities that you can choose to do IN PLACE OF a
maximum of FIVE (5) school-based teaching days. If you have an arrangement with a school
and would choose to complete your 25 days of school-based teaching, then you can ignore this
letter.
When and where do I submit Substitute Options A-D?
You will submit these activities in your portfolio (Assignment 50). These activities must be
added to your portfolio and submitted as part of your portfolio. You must set these documents
up and clearly mark them as Substitute Option A, B, C or D. You can add them to the end of
your portfolio OR in the space that the lesson is in your portfolio if the option replaces one of
your lessons. You are only allowed one document upload – so do not post/email these options
separately – they will not be marked if they are not in your portfolio.
What about forms/documents in my portfolio?
o On the School declaration form (page 5 of your portfolio), it states that you have
completed 25 days of school-based practical teaching. You can cross out the 25 days
and write 20/15 days before the school stamps your forms according to if you choose to
complete either one of two of these substitute options.
o Option A – allows for a 5 day substitution and ONE of the 4 formally written out portfolio
lessons, its reflection and ONE lesson observation.
o Option B – allows for a 5 day substitution period and ONE of the 4 formally written out
portfolio lessons, its reflection and ONE lesson observation
o Option C – allows for a 5-day substitution period and ONE of the 4 formally written out
portfolio lessons, its reflection and ONE lesson observation
o Option D – allows for a 5-day substitution period and ONE of the 4 formally written out
portfolio lessons, its corresponding reflection and ONE lesson observation.
o Weekly Journals (page 17-21 of your portfolio). For the week(s) that you are missing at
the school and completing the substitute activities, you can use this space to briefly write
about what you have learnt while completing the various substitute options. These
activities have been designed to create rich learning experiences for you as the student,
even though you are unable to be at the school in person for this time.
What about signing the attendance register that I need to submit to the Teaching Practice
Office (TPO)?
Cross out the FIVE (5) OR TEN (10) days that you have not been at the school and indicate that
you have opted (chosen) to complete the Substitute Options instead by clearly writing “SO”
across those blocks.
Can I only complete ONE option?
Yes. You can choose to complete either ONE or a maximum of TWO of the options. You will
be accredited with FIVE (5) school-based TP days per option.
