A few ago before technology was advanced in the way that it has been done now, a lot of things were done manually and this allowed people to connect and have meaningful conversations and interactions. However, in the current world, people do not do that anymore as everyone is busy using technology to make things easier and more efficient. Due to this, the dating scene has been affected and people are now dating through internet apps such as tinder among others. However, the problem with this is that lying and catfishing has become a popular thing in the apps. Therefore, using online dating sites is a waste of time because people do not tell their true identity as they lie about their age and use false pics to catfish other users. Lie has become a normal thing in the world of dating as people lie about their credentials so that they can attract a partner. Normally, most people have preferred ages for dating and this makes some group of people feel the need to lie about their age so that they can be chosen. when people use a lie to get themselves in a situation, it makes the situation wrong for both parties. According to Hancock’s Ted Talk in The Future of Lying, it is important for individuals to protect their beliefs and moral grounds by being truthful because it helps in cutting a lot of unnecessary waste of time. Therefore, there is no need of using dating apps when people have a very easy way of lying about details about themselves, because it is very easy to get away with it. Using dating apps is also a waste of time because, the anonymity that is used in the apps makes the process untrustworthy for people that are interested in meeting genuine people. According to Hancock, owning a phone makes it very easy for people to lie and this is why online dating is doomed to fail. It is very easy for someone to go online and use editing apps for their photos so that they can attract a certain type of person. This makes it hard for people to have meaningful connections on the apps because they will fall in love with a non-existent person which calls for disappointments once you meet someone in person. People also tend to use pictures of other individuals which is a form of fraud and on the other side, and this calls for disappointment, which is a waste of time. In conclusion, dating apps and online dating is a waste of time for everyone because it is so easy for people to lie online. Because people can get away with anything on the internet it is easy to be deceived as one would spend a lot of time making connection with someone that is not non-existent.
