1 INTRODUCTION Dear Student This tutorial letter contains feedback on Assignment 02 because it provides guidance on how you were expected to answer the four essay-type questions on page 15 of Tutorial Letter 101. The questions of this assignment will not be repeated in the examination. They do, however, present a very important learning opportunity by indicating the areas of the work that you should know well and areas on which you still need to spend more time. 2 FEEDBACK ON ASSIGNMENT 02 Assignment 02 was a written assignment for 50 marks. It was based on the case study “Li & Fung: From trading company to supply chain manager”, in your prescribed book (Peng & Meyer, 2019:494–495). The case study focuses on how Li and Fung built a business empire by taking care of other people’s logistics, thus introducing recent developments in third-party logistics (3PL) such as the use of technology to connect and engage with their stakeholders. 2.1 Assessment criteria for the assignment The mark allocation for this assignment was as follows: ASSESSMENT CRITERIA WEIGHT MARK ALLOCATED TECHNICAL CARE - Table of contents accurately reflects customised headings and correct page numbers (1 mark) - Student has provided their own headings (1 mark) - Executive summary/Introduction informs the reader of what to expect in the report (2 marks) - In-text referencing is used throughout and is correct according to the Harvard method (2 marks) - Conclusion summarises the findings of the report (2 marks) - List of references/bibliography corresponds to the in-text citations used and is correct according to the Harvard method (2 marks) 10 4 ASSESSMENT CRITERIA WEIGHT MARK ALLOCATED QUESTION 1 - Identification (1/2 mark each) of the resources of Li & Fung (2 marks) - Evaluate how Li & Fung’s resources contribute to the sustainable competitive advantage of the company (8 marks) 10 QUESTION 2 - Provide a brief overview of global intermediaries and institutions (2 marks) - Discuss the role of trade intermediaries in international supply chains from an institutional perspective (4 marks) - Explain how Li & Fung leverages its supply chain to cater to institutional norms (4 marks) 10 QUESTION 3 - Discuss the ways in which an intermediary, such as Li & Fung, can provide value to its buyers and suppliers (5 marks) - Motivate your discussion using supporting examples from the case study (5 marks) 10 QUESTION 4 - Summarise the elements of the marketing mix in the context of MNEs (8 marks – 2 marks per element) - Explain Li & Fung’s role in the marketing mix (2 marks) 10 SUBTOTAL 50 Declaration of originality not included/completed –5% Each page over the eight-page limit –2% per page TOTAL 50 A 10-mark question will usually be no more than a page, a page and a half, in length.
