Activity one
A project I would want to start would be an animal shelter. I can not put into words how
much I love animals, wild or domestic. However, my animal shelter would be more
focused to domestic animals, such as dogs and cats. The focus would be on pets that
have been abandoned, abused, and neglected. We would rehabilitate and try find a
permanent home for these loving animals.
I have identified eight resources that I would have to acquire. The first one would be
passion. To start an organization, you need to be passionate about the cause. For
example, I love dogs and cats and I believe that they are an amazing addition to any
family. I believe they deserve love and care because they have so much love to give
and if they have been neglected, they appreciate any care you give them. I need to
have the enthusiasm to carry this project and accomplish my goal.
This leads me to my second resource: time. I would need to have enough time to
dedicate to this project. It would mean making some sacrifices to my calendar. This
must be something that I consider before starting your project. Because I would be
working from the ground up, I cannot abandon my project.
My third resource is perseverance and patience. My project would require a lot of
patience in dealing with the animals and learning their patterns and behaviours and
perseverance when something goes wrong or I struggle to understand what the animal
is trying to communicate to me. Which leads me to my fourth resource which is the
, acquisition of knowledge and information. I would have to go for training to better my
understanding of animal behaviour. I would need to know how to identify certain
behaviour in animals and link it to what the animal needs. I would need to learn how to
go about rehabilitating an animal based on the different traumas they have experienced.
I would have to broaden my knowledge on how to care for the animals, calm them if
they are scared and establish a bond with the animal so it can feel safe in my care.
The fifth resource I would need would be finances. This would include holding
fundraisers, promoting, and raising awareness for the project. This leads me to my next
resource necessary and that would be networking. Finding potential donors and people
who have experience in the field and learning from their experiences.
The seventh resource would be support. Physical and emotional support from my loved
ones. They would help keep me optimistic about my project. I would also need support
from my community in terms of having people help me in any capacity necessary.
Which also falls into my eight and final resource which is the need for extra people.
People with skills I do not have. An example would be someone who is knowledgeable
about bookkeeping. People who are as passionate and committed to the project as I
am.
This would be me trying to solve a problem and assist in finding dogs and cats their
forever home.
