Assignment 5 Student Number: 1. INTRODUCTION As the world evolves the use of mobile telephone has become an everyday use where most of your day and life revolves around a mobile phone. You may use it for work purposes, school, personal use and many more. Basically, the use of mobile telephones has become somewhat of a ‘need’. According to Haddon:2008, Lull:2001 and Miyaki:2006, during mobile phone adoption young people also find the devices to be multi-purposive, friendly to use and relatively affordable. ‘ 2. DIFFERENT FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE MY ADOPTION OF MOBILE TELEPHONE FOR ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES/ ENDEAVOURS: 2.1. Security Personally, security is by far the most important factor when it comes to mobile telephone adaption. As an individual who has been hacked before, I now know the importance of security, keeping your data safe and ensuring that you have a strong password or better encryption to keep your information away from predators that may use it against you. We provide our personal data and information to network providers when buying a phone, using RICA to register your sim card, location communication data and so forth, assuming that our information will stay private and safe. However, this is not always the case, as these companies or individuals working in that organization steal our data or sell it for personal gain and give it to authorities. It would be best to have a network provider that is honest and transparent with all security measures for example when they want to give my personal information to third party, they would need to seek my permission first, providing all necessary detail on what they intend to use my personal data for. At the moment I use a mobile device that is password protected and face recognition enabled to access all my applications which has been a great step forward to my personal data being protected. 2.2. Data Costs This study source was downloaded by from CourseH on :33:27 GMT -05:00 This study resource was shared via CourseH Data is expensive. Most people cannot afford to buy data in bulk as this is somewhat relatively “cheaper”. As the years go by mobile telephones are taking the world by storm, using online services on a daily requires one to have sufficient data which is becoming more expensive and unaffordable. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, universities have implemented remote learning, but there are two obstacles that are being faced with this implement which are: the prices of internet and data packages especially to poorer household and that many students do have access or own mobile devices. South Africa is ranked number 148 out of 228 countries with the most expansive data prices. Several universities have realized how this factor has an impact on students and their studies, so they have made deals with South Africa’s mobile network operators to offer students free mobile data up to 10GB or more. 2.3. Communication A mobile telephone is an important tool in our daily lives as we use it to communicate either through voice calls or different platforms of messaging apps. This is the main purpose of a mobile telephone, to keep people connected and this is what it was invented for. It is imperative as a student to own a mobile phone, specifically a smart mobile phone. Students use a mobile phone to communicate with their peers, to receive and send messages and to be able to access their study portal and be able to communicate with their lectures and other students, for example myUnisa discussion forums. Besides using a mobile phone to communicate with the universities, I use my mobile telephone to communicate with my family and staying in contact with my friends. 2.4. Social network/ social media. With the restrictions that have and are implemented due to Covid-19, social media and social networks have become somewhat of a saving grace for me and many people in the world. Due to the restrictions many people have invested in mobile phones that are expensive so that they could have a better interaction on social media and post pictures or videos with amazing pixels. Basically, being involved in social media will determine if they adapt to purchasing smart mobile telephones. This study source was downloaded by from CourseH on :33:27 GMT -05:00 This study resource was shared via CourseH For students it would be best to purchase a mobile telephone as it would be beneficial for students when they must complete an assignment that is social media based. 2.5. User satisfaction There is nothing more frustrating than not being able to reach out to individuals at a certain time or when its necessary, and user-satisfaction may only be attained if what I am trying to convey is accomplished without facing any problems. If I continue to face issues like network is not responsive, or the mobile phone I am using lacks in what I need it to provide, then definitely I would lose interest in the product and the brand, resulting to my loyalty to lye elsewhere where my needs and wants are being met. When purchasing mobile phones especially smartphones, it is important to make a choice that will be beneficial and suit your needs and wants and most importantly pocket friendly. 3. NETWORK COVERAGE IN MY AREA. At home, we have unlimited wi-fi coverage throughout the year. Which provides sufficient megabytes per second so that I may be able to research and finish all my assignments in due time. The only issue I have ever faced with the wi-fi coverage is when there is no electricity, therefore I would have to use my mobiledata, however, the network provider in my area is not well connected which becomes an issue. 4. THE METHOD I PREFER TO UNLOCK MY MOBILE SCREEN. I use face recognition or password to unlock my phone. However, I prefer to use facial-recognition as it is safer because no one will be able to duplicate my features, whereas someone might look over my shoulder as I unlock my mobile telephone using a password. 5. SOCIAL MEDIA I MOSTLY USE TO SHARE INFORMATION WITH OTHER STUDENTS. I use as my main source of communication with other students, where some of the groups I have joined also has the lecturer interacting with us. For some groups that I do not have a group for on I use telegram which is a great source of information. CONCLUSION In conclusion we notice that mobile telephones are quite essential in everything we do and how we communicate or receive information. Even though mobile telephones are essential, we need to make a good choice when selecting a mobile phone that meets our needs and wants. SOURCES CONSULTED Lesitaokana, W. 2015.
