Introduction
Blumberg Nursing Home is located in Suburban Philadelphia, P.A. an area that is
highly populated. The facility’s administrator recently terminated the Director of Nursing,
dietary aide and receptionist following gross misconduct. Their unfortunate termination has
affected the operations in the hospital which have made it necessary to prioritize recruiting of
other workers to replace those who have been fired. However, the facility has made a rushed
decision of hiring a nurse to the position of Director of Nurse (DOR) who is not registered.
This will help the company to achieve its initial operations although it is against the
requirements of the federal law. In line with this, this paper will delve to address the staffing
issues among other issues being encountered at the hospital. It will formulate a staffing policy
that will address inappropriate conduct at the workplace, the procedure of reporting
inappropriate conduct and the various consequences if violating the formulated policy. The
paper will also propose ways in which the administrator can demonstrate quality leadership
and management skills and make recommendations for the facility to improve administrative
practices and improve compliance at the facility.
Staffing needs at BNH
It is evident that the facility’s nursing department is understaffed from the fact three
employees have been fired. This action has caused the appointment of an unqualified nurse to
the position of the Director of Nurses (DOR) a position that should be held by a registered
nurse (RN). The nurse who is not registered has been appointed to the position against the
provisions of the federal law. This law requires that the facility should have a registered nurse
