Executive summary
This report concerns a report "Intergrale bedrijfsanalyse" for the company TomTom
N.V. A Dutch company that specializes in map technology and is active worldwide
with its various products.
In this report, an analysis has been made of how the company is doing based on the
2019 annual report and what the expectations are for the current and coming
financial year. From this analysis, a SELL advice for TomTom has been provided as
investment advice for both the short and long term.
The reason for this advice is: that TomTom has been unable to achieve a positive
operating result for some years now, because of the corona pandemic the revenue
has fallen even further, the Altman's Z-score is almost approaching 1.22, the
reserves of TomTom halved in one year because of de corona pandemic and it is
expected that TomTom will not become profitable soon.
TomTom operates in a market where there is a lot of competition and innovation
alone is the way to stay ahead of the competition and be relevant to clients. This
continuous innovation requires significant investment in R&D and hiring the right
staff.
Based on the first three quarterly figures, the forecast attempted to gain a picture of
the effect of the corona pandemic on TomTom. This showed that the turnover will
decline even further by 23% compared to 2019 to approximately € 54 million. The
expectation is that for 2021 there will only be a slight recovery in turnover, with an
increase of 12% compared to 2020. While costs will remain roughly the same.
Because TomTom's reserves have been halved in one year, the question is how long
TomTom can survive with its current business operations. Before the company goes
bankrupt or is taken over.
