ENG2601 EXAM 2021.
ENG2601 EXAM 2021. My analysis on how genre, context and register contribute to understanding Text A. • Genre is the classification of writing into categories based on the type of writing a particular text is compiled in. And in the terms of Text A, it is a nonfiction type of writing. It is nonfiction because it is not written imaginatively rather it is written based on facts. Facts that can be referenced and compared to the historian acts. This we can see as per the text references “the 14th Century Eurasia” it is referring to what has happened and that can even be proved. The writer references this century to try and tell us how COVID19 emerged in China. And in paragraph of 2 of Text A, “…previous plagues such as the Black Death or 1918 Influenza pandemic…” this sentence is also proof that the text is based on facts and therefore we know we are reading a nonfiction writing. And knowing this we can be able to apply the rules of a nonfiction text when we read it. • Context is the subject or theme of the writing; it describes the topic of a text so that we can fully understand what the subject of the text is and why is it even written. Without a context we cannot fully understand what the subject of Text A is, and we cannot interpret the content of a text without understanding its subject. And in Text A the content is about ‘’ From the extinction of the daily commute to transforming our relationship with food, Covid-19 is changing our world already – and in some ways, it looks set to get better”. This entails that our subject is COVID19 and with the knowledge of our subject, we can observe the information detailed by the content and be able to explain the content to the readers. • Register focuses on the language used in a particular text. And in Text A English is the language used and therefore we pay attentiveness to only the rules of the language. In terms of its grammar, styles and the layout. And English requires us to use formal grammar when writing a piece that is to be read as a public information. Because our audience will consist of everyone you can think of, be it the academics, historians or social managers or someone who loves plays. Therefore, the best option is to write this text in a formal language, as it will This study source was downloaded by from CourseH on :22:54 GMT -05:00 This study resource was shared via CourseH determine how the reader relates to it and understand it. This text is compiled for everyone in the World. • Without the three elements of writing analyses in the above text, we can never be able to write and read what is to be read and understood. And we can never understand how it is to be written and read
