1. MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
Write down your teaching philosophy. What are your beliefs about teaching and learning? Include aspects such
as: why you want to be a teacher; what subject and age group you would like to teach and why; how you believe
learners learn best (refer to learning styles found in a modern classroom); how you believe teaching should take
place (refer to teaching strategies and methods used in a modern classroom); why you believe teaching is a vital
profession in South Africa; and how you believe you can make a difference. [Sub-total: 10]
I love learning and explaining to people what I have learned, and I think that is my
biggest reason for wanting to become a teacher it is because I have this hunger for
spreading knowledge and educating people. Nothing encourages me to continue to
learn more about a topic than when you are teaching it. Children are inquisitive, often
asking questions I have never thought of. This allows me to constantly research new
finding and technologies to introduce to my students.
I want to become a teacher because I want to make a difference in the lives of
children and shape them into the adults, they will become with lessons that will last a
lifetime.
I want to gain that job satisfaction unmatched by most professions. There are few
who can use their passion in their job. Teachers get to do this every day, with the
opportunity to instill this enthusiasm in their pupils. I have always had a real passion
for Business studies and the desire to pass this on to others and help young people
develop.
Because I love learning and to always do and be better, I saw that if you have a
desire to progress in your career, teaching has a very clear path to do so. From
heads of department to head teacher, there are opportunities to go as high as you
would want to. Unlike much of the private sector, teaching offers great job security.
I cringe at the idea of having to do the exact same things every day. The great thing
about teaching is that it offers a lot of variety. Each school year, you get to teach new
sets of students with varying characters, experiences, and ideas. As their teacher I
can incorporate new topics, upgrade my teaching style, and design new lessons to
spruce and liven up the classroom.
Teaching is more than just receiving a paycheck. It is a satisfying career knowing
that you will get the honor to make a difference in students’ lives. You are interacting
with students and community members from all walks of life; therefore, you will get
better understanding of current society and activate the creativity in you.
I would love to teach Business studies to Grade - 10’s first and then work my way up
until I’m ready to teach Grade – 12’s eventually.
