NURS 5123:Family and Group Theory Family Assessment Paper Calgary Family Assessment Model Anthony Hines Midwestern State University July 10, 2017 Introduction The Calgary Family Assessment Model is a tool for evaluating and determining a certain family's patterns of overall health and wellness, including their habits and ways of functioning in their household. It is an integrated, multidimensional framework that is based on the foundation of systems, cybernetics, communication, and change theory that is merely influenced by postmodernism and biology of cognition (Wright & Leahy, 2012, p. 51). The Calgary Family Assessment Model is composed of three major classifications: structural, developmental, and functional. One point to remember with regard to doing a family assesssment is that the nurse should determine that all the information are based solely on the nurse's both personal and professional life experiences as well as her beliefs and relationships with the interviewees. Further, it is critical to remember that the information gathered is not taken as “the truth” about the family, but should be regarded as a perspective at certain point in time. My family of choice is the Diaz family. This is a family which consists of a father who is 49 years old, a mother who is 45 years old, and two children aged 21 and 18 years old. Both the children are daughters, and the elder one is in college while the younger one is in high school.
