Since the discovery of fermentation, alcohol has been a significant part of many cultures. However, the chronic and large quantity consumption can cause alcohol-related use disorder (AUD). Individuals with AUD will experience anger issues, endangerment of their life, negative emotions when not under the influence and withdrawal symptoms (“Alcohol Use Disorder”, 2019). Nowadays, alcohol abuse is one of the main health issues in the U.S. As claimed by the (NIAAA) which stands for National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, in 2010, the government spent 249 billion dollars on alcohol use disorder (“Alcohol Facts and Statistics”, 2019). In other words, alcohol dependency is annually costing billions of dollars and still many do not recognize alcohol dependency as a disease. Even though, many scientists have proven that alcoholism is a disorder that affects the brain and other parts of the body. Alcoholics encounter many physical but also personal struggles. Non-alcoholics think that it’s an easy choice to abstain from alcohol, but what most people do not realize, it is not that simple. Alcohol is an addictive substance that is affecting the brain’s function. Because of alcohol abuse, individuals lose their jobs, engage in arguments with relatives and friends and overall their health is compromised. Unfortunately, our society treats alcoholics poorly, instead of trying to help. Thankfully, there are many facilities and treatment options that help personnel with alcohol disorder to abstain from alcohol and start a new life.
