BASICS: DOSAGE:
• Analgesic, non-opioid • Calculated as 10mg per kg for neonates
• ‘Calpol’ • 4 hourly

CONTRAINDICATIONS: SIDE EFFECTS:
• Hypersensitivity • RARE
• Hepatic and Renal Disease • Rashes
• Alcohol dependence - not for infant lol • Blood disorders
INTERACTIONS: • Overdose can lead to liver damage
• Anticoagulants - prolonged use increases • Pancreatitis with prolonged use
effect of warfarin
• Cholestyramine - reduces absorption
• Metoclopramide - enhances affects
FETAL RISK: BREASTFEEDING:
• No known associated risk found in • Short courses only - amount secreted too
epidemiological studies in human small to be harmful
pregnancy • No controlled study data available and
taken by a large number of women with no
observed increase in adverse reactions on
breastfed infants, therefore considered
safe.
