Introduction to the Community: Guilford County, North Carolina.
Guilford County is in the central part of North Carolina, and home to the third largest city
in the state, Greensboro. As of February 2021, the unemployment rate was 6.5%, down from the
all time high of 14.9 percent in May 2020. While the unemployment rate has improved over the
last year, it remains well above the 3.7% United States average (Best Places, 2021).
Major health concerns for the community include poverty, toxic levels of stress, low birth
weight, infant mortality, racial disparities and Covid-19 (Smith et al., 2021).
