BHR 3551 Unit IV Case Study
When reviewing the Interpersonal Relations Case 15.1 in Human Relations:
Interpersonal Job-Oriented Skills (DuBrin, 2015, p. 375), one can understand the ethical
dilemma in which Rajah finds himself. Rajah went through considerable difficulty to obtain his
business administration and marketing degree. Working 30 hours a week while going to school
meant it took Rajah an additional year and a half to complete his schooling. He was eager to
begin his career in retail management, and getting the job at the discount general store was an
exciting first step for him. These details paint a picture as to why Rajah was conflicted when it
came to the policy of not providing customers with their change when it was only one cent. He
felt it was unethical and even wondered about the legal implications of the new rule, but he
didn’t want to lose this important job (DuBrin, 2015, p. 375).
Initially, Rajah expressed his concern to his manager, who explained the financial benefit

365-366) in order to decide what he should do next. Beginning with gathering the facts, he
should determine whether or not the policy is actually illegal, as he suspects. This would help
him more clearly define the ethical issues at stake. Additionally, he could involve his staff and
question them regarding their feelings about the policy. If they all feel the same as Rajah, this
would make his decision easier, as it becomes an issue of expecting others to act against their
own values.
Next, Rajah needs to predict the consequences, which may include the financial welfare
