sensation: conscious or subconscious awareness of changes in the external or
internal environment.
Components of sensation : stimulation of sensory receptor transmission of
the stimulus generation of nerve impulses integration of sensory input.
There are two types of receptors in term of adaptation :
1- rapidly adapting receptors : we call them sometimes dynamic receptors
( on,off)receptors , and detects pressure , vibration as well as touch and smell.
2- slowly adapting receptors : we call them also static receptors , detects pain,
body position and chemical composition of the blood.
Adaptation of receptors
in the picture above we have 4 receptors , if we want to stimulate them at zero
time, to feel sensation , an action potential has to reach cerebral cortex .
Pacinian corpuscle generates 250 action potential at time zero but , after milli
second there is no action potential because of rapid adaptation. On the other
