Informative Did you know that the Gambia is the smallest country in mainland Africa? With a land size of about eleven thousand square miles, the country is surrounded on the east, north and south by Senegal, and on the west the Atlantic ocean. The country gets her name from the river that divides the country into north and south the River Gambia. The Gambia is among the very few countries that have the article before its name the other notable country is the Bahamas. The word the Gambia is A corruption of the Mandingo word “Kambiya" which means the land of Kambi. The Gambia gain independence from Great Britain in 1965 and five years later it becomes a republic. Previously known as the British Gambia, the Gambia was one of the major slave ports in West Africa and the country is the Birthplace of the legendary slave Kunta Kinte whose life was immortalised in the book and film series Roots wrote by one of his descendant Alex Haley. Another notable former slave from the Gambia was the poetess Phillis Wheatley. The Gambia's Economy is heavily relied on Tourism, with Year-round sunshine and proximately 6 hours flight from any European country, The Gambia is a tourist Hot spot. The country is littered with a lot of tourists sits most notables are the Kachikally crocodile pool, the Fort Bullen at Barra point, Kunta kinteh Island, Slave House at Janjanbureh And the Makasustu Cultural park. Descriptive Fatima is the talk of our Village, The elders say she is the most beautiful they have seen or ever heard of. If you see her, It would not be a blasphemy to said that she is god. She is taller than all the average women in the village. Sher's eyes are round and beautiful, a beauty rarely seen anywhere, they shine in her head like an ocean in the summer sun. her hips are round like a tipper’s tyre, so round that my uncle said it takes god a whole day just to mould her. Her nose is pointy and slim, she has the whitest of teeth. Her lips are the smoothest I have ever seen, they symmetry along with the cupid bow. so suckling and juicy that all men in the village fantasised about her legs are Strong and Athletic, men in the even comes to the stream, to watch her walk and fetch water. Her skin is a light shade of chocolate. Her body is slender and looks tenderly delicate. Her smile is wide and beautiful, a friend once said if she smiles is like the world has come to a standstill. Her voice is so melodious that there is never an event in the village without her leading the girls in their songs. Fatima, they said, “is the most beautiful that is created by God.” Reflection Questions 1. What do you think your strengths and weaknesses are in terms of sentence construction and paragraph development? (1-2 sentences) My strength is my ability to create stories out of nowhere, my weakness is the usage of commas in complex sentences. 2. Explain how writing for a particular purpose and audience shaped each of your paragraphs. (3-5 sentences). On the first paragraph, I intended to provide facts about my country and letting people know about it. The audience is those that are interested in history and travels. The second paraphs, the intention was to describe a lady from my village, and the audience is adults. 3. Discuss your feelings about writing in different modes. Is there a particular model you enjoy writing in more than another? (3-5 sentences) I am more comfortable writing narrations then any form of writing. I find writing narration much more easy than writing in Descriptive. I think this is because I am used to narration than the other forms of writing. But I am willing to learn and improve on all the other. 4. Explain how different writing modes that you have learned about might be applied to scenarios in your real life. (3-5 sentences) The different writing more my help me with my speaking, I would be able to utilise the skill in the different modes of writing into my speaking when dealing with different everyday life situation like debating and sharing information.
