Health research is important for everyone because it can help inform individuals about

diseases, trends, outcomes, treatment, and public health involvement. An important factor of

health research is the evaluation process, this provides critical information regard public health’s

involvement. It helps to control different variables that could potentially affect the results of the

research. Change4Life is a national social marketing campaign that is targeted at addressing the

causes of obesity. The campaign’s idea is to make fresh fruit and vegetables available to

everyone, especially in urban areas of England. They are doing this by adding convenience stores

with multiple support systems, equipment, and branded point-of-sale materials. This paper will

discuss Change4Life’s intervention, method, and findings (Adams, et.al., 2012).


Hypothesis


In the article titled The Change4Life Convenience Store Programme to Increase Retail

Access to Fresh Fruit and Vegetables: A Mixed Methods Process Evaluation, the main focus is a

relationship between the English Department of Health and the Association of Convenience

Stores. They worked together to get a supply of fresh fruit and vegetables in the urban areas of

England where there are not many resources and fresh foods. It was introduced in the North East

region of England to help prevent obesity (Adams, et.al., 2012).


Fruit and vegetables are vital to an individual’s diet. The daily recommended amount for

an individual is five 80g portions of fruit and vegetables a day. The average individual usually

consumes a little over two. The study discusses how the consumption of food is tied to an

, individual’s socioeconomic status. Whereas a higher socioeconomic status will consume more

fresh fruit and vegetables than a lower socioeconomic status. This study is a process evaluation


of the Change4Lifes intervention to make individuals more aware, more knowledgeable, and

have access to fresh fruit and vegetables (Adams, et.al., 2012). The researcher could ask making

individuals knowledgeable and aware of the importance of fruit and vegetables increase sales

and consumption of these foods?


Design


The researcher’s design used both quantitative and qualitative research data to complete

their study. The article discussed how the quantitative design is how they measured the

intervention’s variants. The variants included price, quality of food when compared to a large

retailer. The qualitative design used interviews from the stakeholders and helps the researchers to

gain more quantitative data. The researchers used both types of research to help strengthen their

study and find the limitations of each type of research. The Change4Life study is to show that the

intervention is successful also to know if it worked or not and as to why.


There are differences between qualitative and quantitative data. Quantitative research is

gathered by using methods such as mathematical, statistical, or computational techniques. This

helps to gain more accurate and objective information since it is a standardized research method.

The results are shown as statistics, percentages, etc (Frechtling & Westat, 2002). There are two

different methods for gaining quantitative data with mapping of 87 stores in the North East of

England. They also based it on demographic profiles in the area. They notified the stores in the

urban area to ask if they wanted to participate or not. A big part of this research study was used

with quantitative methods. The researchers used the postal code for the participating stores to

help determine the outcome of that specific area. That data collected was used to decide if the
