PSY 665 Topic 6 DQ 1
What is the major reason behind leadership development for managers in organizations?
Are there any problems you see with this reason and/or model?
When organizations invest in leadership development, they are not only promoting
progress for their leaders, they are encouraging growth of the entire organization. Well-
developed leaders create good relationships with their employees and are better able to support
their employees (Mann, 2006). The progress is reinforced as well-trained leadership supports
their employees and motivated employees put out good work further expanding organizational
effectiveness. Managers sometimes work their way up to their current role with little formal
education, others have more theoretical experience that has not yet been applied. With different
background levels some individuals may require less leadership development. Most leadership
development is not individualized, rather it is set up for group success (Flinn, 2018). In this
approach, organizations my be missing out on the learning needs of their managers.
