Terrorism and the media
In recent years, research has shown that watching terrorist related news has a lot of
effects on the wellbeing of victims, children and adults in general. Terrorism activities involve
violence, kidnappings, threats and bomb attacks. In most cases, these results in massive loss of
property and lives, and also the destruction of international relations between different countries.
All these have been found to have a negative effect on the wellbeing of those involved,
especially children living within the period and the adult victims. This paper explains the effects
of watching news related to terrorism.
Terrorists perform their activities in order to gain publicity and cause innocent citizens to
fear in terms of attacks. They also do this in order to rebel against a certain thing or occurrence.
For this reason, the media ends up giving these activities a lot of emphasis when they occur.
Research has shown that many televisions, newspapers, and other news sources replace other
programs in order to discuss and inform the public on the development of such stories. This leads
to the public being drawn to the topic, and in the end everyone starts talking about these attacks.
