Description of Procedure
Cesarean birth is the surgical delivery of the fetus through incisions in the mother's
abdomen and uterus.
CONSIDERATIONS
Nursing Interventions (pre, intra, post)
Preparations include routine preoperatice care such as ob
Indications Complete blood count, coagulation studies, and blood t
Indications include:
-Abnormal Labor
-Inability of the fetus to pass through the mother’s pelvis
-Maternal conditions such as gestational hypertension or diabetes
-Active maternal herpes virus, which may cause serious or fatal infection
-Previous surgery on the uterus, including classic C-section
-Fetal compromise, including prolapsed umbilical cord and abnormal presentation
-Placenta previa or abruptio placentae
Outcomes/Evaluation
Client Education
-Shower as needed, pat incision dry.
After birth of the infant, the physician scoops out the placenta
-Watch and
for signs ofexamines
infection.it for intactness. Th
-Hold pillow against the incision when laughing
-Remind pt it can take up to 6 weeks for incisio
Potential Complications Nursing Interventions
-Risks related to -Vitals to identify hemorrhage or shock; a
anesthesia pulse ox is used to better identify
-Respiratory depressed respiratory function.

-Hemorrhage -Fundus for firmness, height, and midline position
-Blood clots -Dressing for drainage
-Injury to the urinary -Lochia for quantity, color, and presence of clots
