Internal planning factors are factors that directly impact’s the organization from within the
business internally, these include organizational needs and how they plan to adapt and cope with
the constant changes to be able to survive, skill requirements take into consideration the skill
level of their existing staff as well as potential to improve the quality of service within the
organization, workforce profile takes into account the Age, Gender, ethnicity and ability of its
employees to help foresee and plan for the company's future. These are all factors that the
business can control as they are internal from within the business.
External planning factors are factors in which the organization has no control over as they are
factors that are implemented outside the business and causes to impact the human resource
requirements. Examples of external requirements will be mentioned in the following paragraphs.
Internal planning factors
Organizational needs:
Organizational needs are an internal planning factor that the organization has control over
internally, the organization will constantly be changing and evolving to adapt and survive,
therefore the company may venture into new markets or segments in order to increase business
as well as gain new potential customers, Tesco will have to adjust such as increasing the Number
of employees or decreasing the number of employees in order to survive because if the
organization is overstaffed this may be costly and the business will not be able to survive
therefore decreasing the number of employees will resolve that issue as well as if the
organization has too little staff working for them , there is not enough employees to take on all
the workload and will lead to low quality work and bad customer service therefore increasing the
number of employees will solve this issue allowing the business to survive. The organization
Tesco is well known for their supermarket range however they have expanded into different new
service in a completely different segment of Banking/Insurnace that was formed in 1997 but was
recently fully owed by Tesco corporations in 2008 therefore meaning Tesco will have to recruit a
,specialist staff of accountants, bank tellers, financial expert’s and other employees who have
knowledge into the different fields and departments of their banking service, which as of
currently Tesco are looking for recruitments in their banking sector because of expanding into a
new segment this allows the organization to increase the demand of their business gain new
customers and enter new markets to therefore achieve their goal of being successful.

Organizational needs is an important internal planning factor as the Human resource department
will have to recruit candidates that fit their requirements that have knowledge and experience in
the job role required such as cashier for their supermarkets, IT employees for their online
websites and administration, Accountant to keep track of their financial records and mangers to
take control of the shop floor. Human resources planning have been affected in Tesco as
employees are their main/greatest assets and run the business their goal is to ensure every
employee is working well together by socialization of employees especially their younger
employees by giving them support ,career advice , training and appraisal which monitors the
employees progress to ensure employees are developing new skills and meeting the requirements
this allows Tesco to be able to adapt And survive if all employees are highly skilled it will
prepare them for any changes the business make face such as an employee calls in sick another
employee can cover as most employees will have the skills . (2021) ("Human Resources Planning:
Tesco", 2021)

Skills requirements:
Acquiring the proper and required skills requirements of employees in the organization is an
essential part of being successful, as well as enables the human resource department to gather
information of their employees such as experience, their qualifications and training this will
allow the organization to recruit internally if a particular staff is known to have a prominent level
of certification and experience in for example an employee is working the till register of the
supermarket but is known to have experience in marketing this lets the organization to transfer
the employee to a different department that fits their strengths and expertise. Tesco is a Labour-
intensive business therefore meaning they are highly dependent on their employees and their
skills requirements, the employees who work in the meat and poultry department will have to
have knowledge in how to butcher meat, the several types of chicken and beef and how to store
the meat this department requires the employees to have the right skills for the organization to be
successful for example if the employee working in the meat department has little to no
knowledge in butchery then the department will be unsuccessful and customers will not want to
buy their meat or chicken from Tesco therefore emphasizing on the importance.
Maintaining and acquiring the proper skill requirements has and does impact Tesco and the
human resource planning as mentioned it is apart of the business becoming successful and allows
for greater internal recruitment at Tesco they train their employees through numerous training
programs this helps employees to become line mangers these line managers through acquiring
the proper skills now mange the whole team in store, they are able to coach new staff members
and can adapt when change occurs along with controlling their teams.

Workforce profile:
Workforce profile considers details such as Age, Gender, Ethnicity, and Ability of their
current employees. This allows the organization to monitor the diversification of
employees working for them. Tesco includes their workforce profile in their annual
report of the ratio between male to female which is presented in the source below “gender
diversity” , this allows for the organization to plan for future recruitments they will be
able to see if they are recruiting more male employees than female if so, they now have
the knowledge to recruit more female employees allowing for equal opportunities, as well
as the diversity of staff, age is an important factor in the recruitment process in regard to
the human resource department as this allows the organization to plan for their future.
Workforce profile is planned out by the human resource planning to forecast the future
needs of the company as mentioned it allows the organization to have sense of when they
are likely to recruit again as it is a long process, and the business is constantly growing, it
helps Tesco make better decisions in terms of when to begin creating job advertisements
and listing requirements, duties and person specification in order to plan out beforehand
for every type of job position, this will make it easier for Tesco if they plan ahead and
know what to expect in the following years as it is a large company being prepared is
essential.
