Module 9 Questions
1. This chapter discusses observational learning and model characteristics. Observational
learning is the act of an imitator behaving like the person they idolize or look up to. How
would a teacher help a child stop behaving like someone else if that model is an apparent
bad influence? For example, if a student in the class is modeling the behaviors of a
violent individual?
2. Another topic discussed in this chapter was the assumptions of social cognitive theory.
An assumption was that personal characteristics are essential in learning. For example, a
student who constantly tells themself, “math is hard” or “I cannot do math,” is less likely
to do well in that subject. As a teacher, how do we help instill positive thoughts in our
students' heads as it relates to learning, especially when the topic may come off as
challenging to the majority?
3. Chapter 9 discussed verbal persuasion and how individuals are more likely to succeed
when they are told that they can do it. What if student’s are being positively reinforced
about their work but still showing negative signs of improvement?
