Objectives:
• Enumerate the core values of social work.
• Understand the ethical principles in line with the core values of social

The social work profession aims to provide assistance and improve the lives of
every human being. Its mission is to:
• end stereotyping and discrimination,
• promote social justice and social change, and
• emphasize the values of social work in carrying out its duty.
The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) highlights the core values
and ethical principles a social worker should aspire.
Service
• Social workers elevate service to others above their self-interests.
Ethical principle: Their primary goals are to help people in need and to
address social problems.
Social justice
• Social workers focus on addressing poverty, unemployment,
discrimination, and other forms of social injustice.
