Code of Ethics of Social Workers
Objectives:
• Understand the code of ethics of social workers.
• Explain the ethical and unethical behaviors of social workers.
• Examine the different ethical concerns of social workers.
Code of Ethics
• A code of ethics is a set of guidelines and conduct developed by
professionals for their fellow practitioners.
• The theories of these codes of ethics can be traced from the
philosophies of moral thinkers.
• Each country with an existing organization for social workers has a
governing code of ethics. It helps the social workers conduct
themselves properly in the practice of the profession.
The PASWI Code of Ethics
• Established in 1974, Philippine Association of Social Workers, Inc. was
established to look after the welfare of the professionals in the country.
• The code was created in the 1970s and was amended twice.
• The component of the code of ethics is as follows:
o There are 8 creeds of belief in the code.
o There are 3 divisions of standard of ethical conduct that are
relative to profession and self, clients, and colleagues.
