Assignment No. 1 (2 Short Essays)
The Differences Between Primary Oral Cultures and Literary Cultures, and How They
Are Related with Each Other.
Communication is always defined: as a process between the receiver to the sender of
the message. As communication students, we used to believe that communication is not just
something that should be enhanced. It is also a power to influence and express our own
emotions and ideas on a certain topic. Communication should not also be limited it should be
infinite -though sometimes we have to consider whatever we are trying to tell one another: we
should be sensitive, and that word or message should be sensible. As I grow older, I get the
real lies of how important communication is to our daily lives. Through communication, we
could impart our knowledge and spread a piece of certain information that the people should
hear; or be part of the upgrade we all wish to have.
Primary oral cultures do have some certain differences from literary cultures. In oral
cultures, there are a lot of things that you must consider, since this is performed verbally you
must make sure that you are choosing the right words and you should know who your audience
is, you should know how to face them. Above all, you should know how to listen: try to widen
your understanding, do not just focus on the single side of the story, you have to empathize for
you to be able to understand where these facts are coming from, and through that, you can now
influence them effectively and efficiently. Further, Oral communication is how information is
transferred from one person to another; information in this type of communication is only
preserved in the person's mind, making information transmission dependent on the subjective
person's interpretation or recall of the narrative. In the second stage, the more information
handed from one person to another, the farther likely it is that the data will differ from the
initial, simply due to the sender's interpretation or memory of the narrative being possibly
inconsistent.
In literary Cultures the same as oral cultures, we also follow a set of guidelines and
standards on how we could be able to express our thoughts, ideas, and knowledge effectively
to our readers. We should learn how we could use the imagination of our readers for them to
fully understand the message that you are trying to deliver. Additionally, it's used to distribute
information in literate civilizations. One of the advantages of this kind of culture is that it
overcomes the problems of oral culture, which is: hard to store knowledge due to lack of media
or materials such as paper. But now, On the grounds that knowledge is preserved, it can be
distributed to a large number of people without being tampered with, because everyone has
their own opinions on this issue. On the other hand, one disadvantage literary culture has is the
inability to immediately request comments or explanations from the originator of the
information.
In brief, Primary Oral Cultures and Literary Cultures gave us the freedom to
communicate, learn, share, and be empowered. They may both have a limitation or negative
side, yet none of those change the fact that they both bring irenic and significant changes.
