, EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report is an analysis of the financial operations and performance of the company
Hong Leong Bank (M) Berhad from year 2014 to 2018. This report will provide an
assessment of the industry analysis, strategy analysis, comparative analysis, common size
analysis, financial ratios analysis, cash flow analysis.
In the analysis, I will evaluate on strategy and industry of Hong Leong Bank Group
from year 2014 to 2018. And after complete with comparative analysis using year-to-year
basis and common size analysis, I will evaluate the strength and weaknesses based on the
analysis.

, 1. INTRODUCTION TO COMPANY
Hong Leong Bank Berhad is a regional financial services company based in Malaysia,
with presence in Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia and China. The Bank is
technology-focused and emphasises the development of financial capabilities to serve its
clients across the five geographies. Hong Leong Bank Berhad (“HLB” or “the Bank”) is
listed on Bursa Malaysia and forms part of the Hong Leong Group. Headquartered in Kuala
Lumpur, the Bank has a strong Malaysian entrepreneurship heritage.
Hong Leong Bank Berhad was found by Ji Chiew. The bank starts operations in 1905
in Kuching, Sarawak. In 1 January 1982, the Head Office relocated from Kuching to Kuala
Lumpur. The consolidation of banking institution to meet the requirement of Bank Negara
Malaysia marks another milestone for Hong Leong Bank Berhad. Hong Leong Bank Berhad
was listed on Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange on 17 October 1994. The market capitalization
as of recent days is RM 470 million, according to bank website. Hong Leong Bank has
diversified the businesses into financial services, manufacturing, and property and
infrastructure development. The services available are personal financial services such as
credit cards, investment, loan, deposits, insurance, priority banking, personal banking and
Hong Leong Club Rewards for customer loyalty (Hong Leong Bank, 2009).
