PYC3716 – Community Psychology: Working for Change 2021 – Semester 1 & Semester 2 – Assignment 3 You have to submit your portfolio as an assignment (Assignment 03). The portfolio is the equivalent of an examination and there is no venue-based examination for this module. Submission of at least one assignment (either Assignment 01 or Assignment 02) is compulsory to gain permission to submit the final portfolio. The mark that you receive for Assignment 01 contributes 50% and the mark for Assignment 02 contributes 50% to your year mark. The year mark contributes 20% and the portfolio contributes 80% towards your final mark. Your portfolio should consist of four sections. Please include all four sections in your portfolio. Section 1: Evidence of my work for each activity For each activity in the Study Guide you were required to create something, such as a piece of writing. Please include this in the portfolio as evidence of what you did for each activity. You are also welcome to include extra material if, for any of the activities, you did more than what was required or have interesting additional material (such as photographs) to share. This section of your portfolio can be as long or as short as you like. Section 2: Final reflections on the process of volunteering and participant observation Write a one-page (double spacing) essay telling us how you experienced the process of being a volunteer and a participant observer. Which aspects of the process did you enjoy and which not, and why? In what ways, if any, do you now think differently about volunteering and participant observation, after having done all the activities in the module? Some of the activities that you completed speak to the process of volunteering and participant observation, so you can make use of the material you generated while completing those activities. However, please do not simply copy and paste the material. What we want here is a final, short integration of what volunteering and participant observation meant for you. Section 3: Final reflections on the learning process Write a one-page (double spacing) essay telling us how you experienced learning in this module. This module is different from many others in that we require a great deal of active engagement and creativity from students. How did you find this kind of learning? Please note that we do not require you to say complementary things about the module – tell us honestly what you think about how the module fitted with your preferred ways of learning new things. Some of the activities that you completed speak to the learning process, so you can make use of the material you generated while completing those activities. However, please do not simply copy and paste the material. What we want here is a final, short integration of what the learning process was like for you. Section 4: Highlights and tips for fellow students Write a short essay (at most one-page double spacing) in which you provide some guidance for future students regarding what to expect from the module and from volunteering at an organisation. If you can, include tips on how they can get the most fun and value from the experience. Also include a consent form if you are willing for us to share your highlights and tips with other students. The consent form is available under Additional Resources on the myUnisa site
