M1 - Compare two jobs in the travel and tourism sector

Comparison of two chosen jobs in the travel and tourism sector
Both jobs are suitable to a person if they want to work in the travel and tourism industry.
Although, both jobs are different from each other in many different aspects. This report will
explore the difference between the two jobs in order to figure out their defining differences.

Main duties and responsibilities –
Being a cleaner entails the person to have a good sense of skill towards cleaning. The reason
being, they need to deliver the best they can in the job. Cleaning is important as it involves
the removal of hazardous germs that have been left by the person before. To clean
properly, the person needs to ensure they use the correct cleaning tools and chemicals
whilst being time efficient. Setting the correct amount of time for each area of the room and
having an understanding on the most effective way to clean that area. It is done to ensure
that the next person in that accommodation room has a pleasant and clean experience. Not
ensuring that the accommodation is cleaned correctly could lead to a bad review from the
customer to the accommodation.

Being a pilot however, entails much more responsibility and duties as lives are at stake. A
pilot needs to make sure they do all the appropriate checks correctly such as amount of fuel,
destination location, communicating their intentions to traffic control and safety checks. The
pilot has all the responsibility of ensuring that all these duties are carried out. any small
mistake could cause a big issue and even a threat to life. Some big responsibilities are
planning the correct flight route, having good time management in order to set off on time,
checking if the weather is suitable to fly in. Making announcements over the intercom to let
passengers know any details of a flight, such as get read for departure.

To make a correct comparison, it is obvious that the pilot role has a higher amount of duties
and responsibilities. This is because, a mistake made by a pilot could cause bigger issues
than if a cleaner made a mistake. For example, not checking the radio control works can
lead to loss of communication, which is required to request permission to land. Both jobs
are different however, do have their similarities. Both jobs will require a person to stick to a
strict time schedule whilst doing their job in an effective and efficient manner. Time
management is very important and helps to ensure the employees can stay on track.

Entry requirements –
To be a cleaner doesn’t require a person to have more than 5 GCSEs from high school due to
it being an entry level job. Having a pass in English and Maths helps to increase the chances
of a person getting the job as it can help with the development of their skills in the field.
Cleaners normally develop their skills in the field and don’t need much additional training.
However, in the case of a pilot, they will need to pass with at least 5 GSCEs, three of them
including maths, physics and English. The person is required to pass these same subjects in
college at A-level at the highest grade. This is because being a pilot requires a lot of math
and physics, which is used when calculating things such as distance from airport, amount of
speed required for landing, or the amount of turn needed to face the correct direction.

The comparison I have made is that the cleaner job is easier to qualify for as it requires less
effort and less schooling as a person only needs to get 5 GCSEs from A-C. Whilst being a pilot
requires the person to have three specific GCSE grades including two others at the highest
