One of the main systems in our body, also known as alimentary canal or gastrointestinal
tract. It begins with mouth ang end in anus. The food gets digested with the help of
enzymes. This is usually done as three processes.
Complex materials are digested to simpler amino acids.
Complicated sugars are reduced into simpler sugars such as glucose.
Large fat molecules are break down to fatty acids and glycerol.
1. MOUTH
The mouth is an oval-shaped cavity inside the skull. The two main functions of the
mouth are eating and speaking. Parts of the mouth include the lips, vestibule, mouth
cavity, gums, teeth, hard and soft palate, tongue and salivary glands. The mouth is
also known as the oral cavity or the buccal cavity.
2. TOOTH
The human teeth function to mechanically break down items of food by cutting and
crushing them in preparation for swallowing and digesting. The parts of teeth include:
Crown : The upper part, located above gum line and a root.
Root : Lies within the bony tooth and socket which is not visible.
Enamel: The outermost protective layer of crown. It is white and is the most
hardest substance in our body.
