, QUESTION 1: READING TECHNIQUES
1.1. Scan through the text in Question 3 and identify what the chapter seeks
to explore.
This chapter seeks to explore the important role of women in African societies and
how their leadership can enhance organizations. It explores how colonialism has
affected the status of women in Africa, and how traditional societies had gender-
specific roles that complemented male roles. It also highlights the great women
leaders in African history, such as MaNthantisi, Yaa Asantwa, and Empress Uelete
Rutael, who led with distinction.
1.2. Scan through the text in Question 3 and list the women leaders cited as
examples.
Ghanaian Queen Mother Yaa Asantwa who led and protected her chiefdom
against British Colonialists
Empress Uelete Rutael from Ethiopia
MaNthantisi during the rise of the Zulu kingdom
1.3. Skim-read the text in Question 3 and in five lines, discuss what the main
argument of the text is.
The main argument of the text is that women leaders have been successful in
handling crises, and there is evidence to support this claim.
The author cites several examples of women leaders who have managed crises
effectively, including Jacinda Ardern, Angela Merkel, and Tsai Ing-wen.
The author also points out that women are often better communicators and more
collaborative, which can lead to better outcomes during times of crisis.
Despite this, women are still underrepresented in leadership positions, and the
author argues that this needs to change in order to better address future crises.
