UNDERSTANDING COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY AND MEDIA ECOLOGY

Origin of the Greek word: technologia (τεχνολογία), techne (τέχνη), means "craft", "skills",
"art". Logos (λογος) "words+ ια = logia (λογία), "saying" or "ordering" (in the sense of
arranging). Communication Technology is a hardware and software equipment in an
organizational structure that contains social, economic, cultural values, which allows each
individual to collect, process and exchange information with other individuals (Abrar, 2003).
while Communication according to (Abrar,2003) is Hardware and software in an
organizational structure that contains social-economic-cultural values, which allows each
individual to collect, process and exchange information with other individuals. (Abrar, 2003).
From the above definition it can be concluded that:
1. Communication technology is a tool
2. Communication technology is born by an economic, social and cultural structure
3. Communication technology carries values derived from certain economic, social,
cultural and political structures
4. Communication technology improves the ability of the human senses in the
communication process
MEDIA ECOLOGY
Media Ecology Theory provides an overview of the development of the communication era,
starting from the tribal era, the literacy era, the print era, the electronic era, the digital era,
and the convergence era. there are assumptions of media ecology, including:
1. The media influences every behavior in society
2. The medium shapes the perception and influences our experience
3. (Technology) Media can unite the world
