BTEC level 3 Unit 16 P3

Voorbeeld van de inhoud

For this P3 I will be making a list of all the things Harrods does to motivate it’s employees, after that I
will be explaining four of the motivation techniques, these four will be Taylor, Mayo, Maslow and
finally Herzberg.

The tings that Harrods does to motivate people is: giving them more responsibilities, the employees
are also given more freedom, there is also a better way of communicating with the employees, there
is also an employee magazine, finally there is an employee quality form, Harrods also uses a morning
briefing and finally Harrods also uses an intranet.

1) Giving employees more responsibility motivates people because they the feel like being
important and being appreciated within Harrods. When giving more responsibility to
employees the employees will most likely work harder and try to make sure that everything
that they do is of the highest quality.
2) When employees are given more freedom within their job they feel like someone who is
capable of doing his job well. When an employee of Harrods does his job good without the
manager looking of his/her back he feels rewarded and proud for doing his job well. Doing
this will make employees more satisfied and more proud of what they did because they did
all alone.
3) Harrods also communicates very well with their employees, Harrods does this to make sure
that the employees are informed on what happens within the company. They also
communicate to the employees what the aims of that day are, when the employees know
that they can adapt on how hard they need to work that day.
4) The employee magazine that Harrods produces is an motivation for employees because
employees feel that they are involved within Harrods. They feel so involved because they
know the thinks that happens within Harrods, therefor if there is a problem the employees
can adapt their style of work to that particular problem
5) An quality form for employees helps to motivate employees in a way that they feel like their
voice is heard by the management. This is so important because the employees are the face
of Harrods and need to be happy about they are treated.
6) A morning briefing helps to motivate employees in a way that they are informed about what
happens within Harrods, just like a few types of motivation discussed before this is very
important because they will work harder if they know that there are problems within
Harrods.
7) The intranet within Harrods is used to motivate their workers in a way that they can check
for example their aims and goals for that certain week, if they know that they will work
towards those aims and therefor will work harder

Now I will be explaining four types of motivation techniques,
 Taylor: the theory of Taylor is about setting targets in order to get their wages. He thought
that workers are only motivated by the money they get and not because the for instance like
their jobs. His theory uses Piece rate this means that an employee is paid per piece of work
that they do, for instance when a professional footballer gets paid per goal he scores. A
downside of the theory of Taylor is that is people produce things more to get more money
the quality of the product can get less.
