Discussion board-MN 553 Hello, everyone! My name is Emile Horne (pronounced Emily). I live in North Carolina where I have worked as an RN for 20+ years, primarily in Labor & Delivery, but I also have experience in NICU, hospice, OR, and PACU. In Advanced Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapeutics, I expect to enhance my knowledge of medication indications, potential side effects, drug interactions, and contraindications to prescribing for the patients I will encounter as a Family Nurse Practitioner. In addition, I hope to learn a great deal about generics and other cost-effective treatment options like over-the-counter medications that can assist patients in lower income populations. It is extremely important to me that I understand how to help my patients treat their medical conditions, including those that require pharmacological methods, but so do in such a way that they are able to afford it without skimping on other necessities. According to a recent poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation (2019), about 1 in 4 Americans who are prescribed medications say they have difficulty paying for them on a monthly basis. As a future primary care provider, I am eager to learn how to work around this problem, utilizing cheaper, but no less effective, medications until the U.S. has a better system in place to assist with health care costs.
