Our Common Future (Brundtland Report): 1987
A study from the World of Commission on Environment and development,
which was presided over by Mrs. Gro Harlem Brundtland, the former prime
minister of Norway, brought together social, economic, cultural and
environmental challenges as well as international solutions. It established
the term “sustainable development” and made it well known.
The education Congress on Environmental Education and Training:
1987
This event was held in Moscow, It was organized by UNESCO and UNEP.
The purpose of the event was to confirm the validity of the Tbilisi Principles
as sound guidelines for environmental education programs.
The world Conference on Education for All: 1990
The summit urged all nations to provide basic education for all citizens,
emphasizing that this education must cover sustainable lifestyles.
The Rio Earth Summit/United Nations Conference on Environment and
Development: 1992
An important text from this meeting is chapter 36 of Agenda 21 (UNCED,
1992), which emphasizes the necessity of extensive environmental
education programs in order to address the environmental issue. A pact on
environmental education for sustainable societies was produced as a result
of the summit.
The International Conference on Environment and Society: Education
and Public Awareness for Sustainability (also known as Tbilisi +20):
1997
The Declaration of Thessaloniki was the outcome of the meeting. The
conference’s talks were organized on a document produced by UNESO in
1997 titled Education for Sustainable Future: A Transdisciplinary Vision for
Concerted Action.
