A successful candidate should:
• Understand the embryology of the placenta,
and its unique anatomical and physiological
characteristics
• Understand the clinical scenarios that may
arise as a result of placental pathology.

• During the rotation you should examine 5 placentae and
recognize the maternal (cotyledons), fetal surface, vessels of
the cord and cord insertion.
• You should be able to comment on the weight, shape and its
completeness as well as any obvious placental pathology.
