Journal – Seduction
Seduction is the intent to manipulate another person into any type of sexual act or
kissing. It requires one to take advantage of somebody in a way that would make them do
something they may have not wanted to do.
I have never thought too much about seduction and whether it is immoral or not, but
after reading about it and sitting through the lecture, I believe that it may be immoral because
of the fact that in order to seduce someone, one has to take advantage of another person’s
vulnerabilities. If one person A is attempting to seduce person B, person B would have to show
or possess in some way that they are vulnerable to person A or person A’s seduction methods.
Take for instance an example where person A and person B are on a date. Person B has
no intention of having sex with person A, but person A wants to anyways. Person A begins to
touch person B in a way that he/she feels is making person B weaker in some sense. A realizes
this and continues with this method. Person B may be responding in a positive or negative way,
but either way, they did not initially plan to want to feel this way or take it any further.
However, person A continues and starts to do more things throughout the date that he/she
realizes are making person B weaker and more vulnerable.
If the two end up doing some type of sexual act, I believe that person A was acting
immoral because he/she was taking advantage of B and continued to carry out their seduction
methods.
Seduction certainly requires a plan and an intent to lead someone into sexual acts. It is a
form of deception that requires the other person’s desire to be altered that may have not been
intended for.
However, I do believe that if person B, for instance, was responding back to person A
positively, and possibly even using the same methods on person A that he/she is using, then
person A is not acting immoral anymore. If both people have made a decision prior to the
meeting that they want to take part in any type of sexual act with the other person then
seduction wouldn’t be necessary, nor would it even be used.
In order for seduction to happen, person B must not have had the initial intent to take
part in a sexual act with person A. If both people want to, then seduction is not used. In this
case, it is no longer immoral. In order to know whether or not a person has this initial intent,
person A and person B should communicate prior to any form of seduction, that way nobody is
manipulated or taken advantage of.
