Prostitution is therefore considered as one of the many signs of society’s moral decay. Feminists

flog and rob prostitutes. Besides, the act of prostitution is one of the greatest spreaders of STDs
and HIV all around the world. The presence of so many prostitutes around the world is increased
by the number of people who are more than willing to pay for sex once in a while.
The sociological theory of functionalism is one that can help to better understand the act
of prostitution and explain why it is practiced so faithfully all around the world. Prostitution is
very functional in the society we live in since it is a source of income for many families and
many people. Besides it provides a ready alternative for men who do not get sexual satisfaction
from their partners. It also provides cheap sex for men who do not have sexual partners and are
in need of sex.
The theologist Kingsley Davis believes that if prostitution did not exist, then there would
be a higher rate of divorce cases all around the world. He argues that many men are not sexual
pleased in their marriages and therefore may seek sex from outside. Instead of falling in love
with another woman, they opt for brief sex from prostitutes to save their marriages.
