Use
We use the present simple to talk about…
- routines
ex. They do this every morning.
- general truths
ex. It gets chilly in Montana in late November.
- permanent situations
ex. Sidney Rider teaches 7 grades at the same time.
- a sequence of actions
ex. John gets the ball. He passes it to Jane.
We use the past continuous to talk about…
- actions going on right now
ex. The children are standing outside.
- temporary situations
ex. Today, one of the parents is helping the younger children with their reading.
Possessive pronouns
Form
This boy is my buddy. -> He is a buddy of mine.
This calculator is your calculator. -> This calculator is yours.
This pencil is his / her pencil. -> This pencil is his / hers.
These players are our teammates. -> These players are teammates of ours
These tablets are your tablets. -> These tablets are yours.
These atlases are their atlases. -> These atlases are theirs.
