13. How could you determine the correct temperature range, specific enzyme? salt concentration, and pH for a Types of Enzymes in the Human Body: below, search and read about the enzyme. What does it help the body do? Where is it located in the body? What might happen if that enzyme was not there or did not work properly? Write AT LEAST Salivary Amylase: Pepsin: Solution Question 1: This can be check by pH and temperature experiment. You can standardise or find out any functional assay for your enzyme and then check the retention activity at the different temperature and pH like first at pH 5 then 6 and 7 while maintaining all over other parameters some like the before except pH which is 6.0 now instead of 5.0. In the same check for all the pH range and temperature. Plot the graph pH vs temperature activity curve. The highest point is your optimum. Question2: Types of enzymes in the human body: A) Salivaryamylase: Location: This enzyme is present in salivary glands in mouth. Function: It helps to to break down the corbohydrates in the mouth. It also helps in the digestion of simple corbohydrates in mouth before it goes to stomach. Salivary amylase deficiency leads to skin problems eczema, psoriasis and allergic reactions. It also trigger respiratory distress and chronic pancreatitis. B) Pepsin: Location: It is present in the stomach. The chief cells of stomach secrete pepsinogen which is precursor to the proteolytic enzyme pepsin. Function: It helps in breakdown of peptide bond of amino acids such as typtophan and tyrosine. Pepsin deficiency: Bloating, abdominal tightness, constipation, heartburn and gas after meals. C) Lactase: Location: It is produced by some socialized cells which line the small intestine. Function: It helps to breakdown of lactose sugar. Improper function or lactase deficiency leads to bloating of stomach, abdominal cramps, flatulence and diarrhoea. D) Catalase Location: This enzyme is is present in all living organisms which are exposed to oxygen called as peroxisome such as bacteria, animals and plants.Function : It helps to decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into less reactive gaseous oxygen and water molecules. Catalase deficiency: Because of the catalase deficiency human suffer from acatalasemia. It is condition of open spores inside the mouth which leads to death of soft tissue.

Question 1:
This can be check by pH and temperature experiment. You can standardise or find out any
functional assay for your enzyme and then check the retention activity at the different
temperature and pH like first at pH 5 then 6 and 7 while maintaining all over other parameters
some like the before except pH which is 6.0 now instead of 5.0. In the same check for all the pH
range and temperature. Plot the graph pH vs temperature activity curve. The highest point is your
optimum.
Question2:
Types of enzymes in the human body:
A) Salivaryamylase:
Location: This enzyme is present in salivary glands in mouth.
Function: It helps to to break down the corbohydrates in the mouth. It also helps in the digestion
of simple corbohydrates in mouth before it goes to stomach.
Salivary amylase deficiency leads to skin problems eczema, psoriasis and allergic reactions.
It also trigger respiratory distress and chronic pancreatitis.
B) Pepsin:
Location: It is present in the stomach. The chief cells of stomach secrete pepsinogen which is
precursor to the proteolytic enzyme pepsin.
Function: It helps in breakdown of peptide bond of amino acids such as typtophan and tyrosine.
Pepsin deficiency: Bloating, abdominal tightness, constipation, heartburn and gas after meals.
C) Lactase:
Location: It is produced by some socialized cells which line the small intestine.
Function: It helps to breakdown of lactose sugar.
Improper function or lactase deficiency leads to bloating of stomach, abdominal cramps,
flatulence and diarrhoea.
D) Catalase
