• Behaviour Change - To effect change in behaviour which will enable the client to live more productiv
satisfying life in all settings – relationships, family, workplace.
• Preservation or attainment of positive mental health – If this is reached individual achieves integratio
adjustment, and positive identification with others. He learns to accept responsibility, to be indepen
and to gain behavioural organization.
• Problem resolution
• Improving personal effectiveness – personally effective person is able to commit himself to projects,
investing time and energy and being willing to take appropriate economic, psychological and physica
risks. He has the competence to recognize, define and solve problems. He is seen as reasonably
consistent across and within his typical role situation. He is seen as being able to think in different an
original ways. And is able to control impulses and produce appropriate responses to frustration, hosti
and ambiguity.
• Counseling seeks to maximize an individual’s possible freedom within the limitations supplied by him
and his environment. Counseling also seeks to maximize the individual’s effectiveness by giving him
control over his environment and the responses within him that are evoked by the environment.
