D2 – Recommend improvements that could be made to managing physical
resources to comply with legal requirements, to reduce waste and obtain better
value for money in a selected organization
It is important that all businesses recognize improvements that can be made to
encourage growth. Legal requirements, reduction in waste and the acquiring of
better value are three topics that can vastly improve a business, such as
McDonalds. Within this assignment I will be analyzing this company and
producing improvements that I believe will advance the company greatly.
My first key recommendation is going to relate to the legal requirement of Health
and Safety. Within Many companies, including McDonalds, there are hitters and
radiators to ensure the commutability and comfortability of their consumers
throughout the cold, autumn months. The problem involved with the heaters
currently is that the condition of the system is old and greatly needs updating,
alongside the fact that it is often kept on throughout winter, resulting in specific
areas becoming too hot and uncomfortable. The improvements that can be made
include updating the system, to ensure that the system is fit for purpose. The
management of this recourse would become more efficient due to the fact there
will be less need for constant observation alongside maintenance because of the
fact that this asset will perform appropriately and as desired. By improving the
system, it will overall result in a satisfied consumer base which will increase profit
due to the fact customers are likely to return. With regards to the reduction in
waste, by updating the system McDonalds is able to reduce the amount of energy
at which they use, due to the fact that the radiator performs well, so can be
turned off upon completing its duty. This will overall save the company money
though their electricity bill.
Another physical resource that can be improved within this company includes the
taps within the kitchen/toilet. The key issue involved with this asset is that there
is no automatic “stopper sensor” function within the taps. This results in a large of
waste of water due to the fact that people often accidentally leave the tap on.
Flooding off the sink also occurs when users have no properly disposed of the
drying tissue provided, and left the taps on. This is a problem for McDonalds due
to the fact that it not only wastes the companies’ money because of this, but also
gives the overall organization a bad reputation and an unprofessional atmosphere
