, Summary
Mexico has 114.975.406 inhabitants and is therefore the biggest Spanish-
speaking country. The income distribution is highly unequal and the population
that lives below the poverty line is 51,3%. Nevertheless the unemployment rate
is only 4,5%. This is due to the average income, this is only $15.300. A lot of
people have to pay their bills from even less. Mexico is ecological very rich and
has also a developed technological sector. Mexicans are furthermore highly
devoted to the christian religion.
For Mexicans family and relationships are of high value. The group is more
important than the individual and even more important than the laws and rules. It
provides help and safety, in exchange for loyalty. Mexicans are very emotional in
their behaviour and ways of talking. They show their feelings through body
language and stand often very close to eachother. Strong eye contact is a sign
that people listen and are interested.
Mexicans place a high value on their status and title. The hierarchy is very strong
and Mexicans are resistend towards innovation because of their need for
certainty. Also in business context are relationships of high importance. A
relationship has first to be established, before business can be conducted.
Leisure time and business time are connected. The time outside work is used to
establish/maintain relationships with customers, colleagues, family and friends.
Mexicans are very punctual if it comes to their schedule and focuss on only one
project at a time. Women are furthermore not used to have a higher position
within an organization and therefore lower in the hierarchy.
