Introduction Paragraph- Overview:
One type of media which reports on crime is newspapers which can come under either
tabloid or broadsheet. A tabloid is a smaller, more magazine-style article which will mainly
focus on gossip and be less formal and informative: an example of a tabloid would be The
Sun. A broadsheet, however, is much more information heavy and is a lot more serious and
hard facts: less sensationalised than a tabloid. An example of a broadsheet would be The
Guardian. Another type of media which represents crime is TV which can be in the form of a
soap or a documentary. A soap is a dramatized show which tends to exaggerate and show a
less realistic version of topics that come up, such as crime; An example would be
EastEnders. A documentary on the other hand, is much more informative since its purpose
is to inform others so is less likely to exaggerate facts since they aren’t made to entertain
like soaps are. Another type of media representation are films which can come under many
different genres such as romance, horror, sci-fi, etc. Films have a long plot which usually is
cut down into a two-hour time frame, so it’s important that regardless of the purpose: they
manage to get the point across in that time. Another type of media representation is
electronic gaming which both adults and children can play a variety of them on either Xbox,
PS4, PC, etc. There are many different genres of video games with many using topics like
violence as the main purpose. This would quite clearly cause dramatizing since its meant to
be exciting for players, an example of a game would be GTA. Another type of media
representation is social media which is any platform that allows people to interact with one
another in short, simple ways. Examples of specific platforms are snapchat, Instagram and
twitter. A final media representation is music; these songs can be made by anyone, for
anyone and can also come in many genres such as hip-hop, rap and rock. There aren’t many
rules when creating music since the main purpose of it is to entertain others.
