- Not possible to use with people who suffer from aphasia
- NART underestimates pre morbid functioning
The patient has to read out loud 50 multisyllabic, low frequency words of irregular spelling-
sound. (chord, ache, aisle, depot)
Best Performance Method
Measures level of premorbid functioning, in wich the highest scores are seen as a level of
premorbid functioning because no-one overachieves their best biological capacity (in this
view).
Farnsworth panel D15 test test for colourblindnes (colour agnosia)
The Visual Object and Space Perception Battery (VOSP) consists of eight tests each
designed to assess a particular aspect of object or space perception while minimizing the
involvement of cognitive skills.
Measures visual perception
- Incomplete letters
- Silhouettes
- Object decision
- Progressive silhouettes
- Dot counting
- Position discrimination
- Number location
- Cube analysis
JLO – Judgement of Line orientation measures visuospatial skills, you have to match the
angle and orientation of lines in space. The following patients often fail the JLO:
- Dementia
- Parkinson disease (has to do with the difficulty of the task, not because
of lack of visuospatial deficits)
A score of 17 or less is considered a sign of severe deficit
Conventional and unconventional views (Warrington & Taylor) recognizing
of drawn objects from different perspectives.

o match each of 10 colored photos to each of 10 objects on desk
o matching object was same conceptually but different physically
people with apperceptive agnosia do badly on this test because they don’t recognize
embedded figures, have trouble to distinguish 2 or more figures.
Hearing amusion (not recognizing of music). Following tests are used:
- seashore test of musical talent
- seashore rhythm test
test using odor detection test (UPSIT) smell recognition

The continuous performance test used to measure vigilance (mogelijkheid om aandacht te
focussen en vol te houden)
Failure on this test can occur due to reduced sustained attention but also due to impulsivity,
anxiety and/or environmentol noise. 500 trials of ‘1’s and ‘2’s in a pseudo-random pattern
requiring the shifting sets between the visual and auditory modalities. Subject is required to
click the mouse only when he sees or hears a 1 and inhibit clicking when he sees or hears a
2.
Digit span forwards (measures efficiency of attention)
Mental tracking:
- digits backwards
measures mental tracking and working memory (patients who have concrete thinking
or are easily confused have problems with this task)
- mental control (WMS)
o count backwards from 20 in 30 secs.
o Repeat the alphabet in 30 secs.
