NURS -6521Nassignment week 2
pathophysiology
Case Study
A 42-year-old man comes to the clinic with a chief complaint of pain, redness, and
swelling of his right calf. He states that he had been working in his yard using a string trimmer
when the trimmer slipped and cut his leg. He cleaned the wound with water from the garden hose
and covered the wound with a large Band-Aid. Several days later, he developed a fever to 100.6˚
F and chills and noticed that his leg was swollen and red. He comes to the emergency department
for definitive care.
Introduction
The Adaptive responses include the physical reaction of body defense mechanisms to
disease or injury (McCance & Heather, 2019). One should be able to recognize signs and
symptoms as an advanced practitioner that indicates uneven homeostasis of the body to diagnose
and treat diseases correctly. The goal of this paper is to discuss the pathophysiology of the
disease process, identify genes associated with the development of the disease, and explain the
process of immunosuppression.
Presentation of symptoms
The above case study identifies a male that is presenting with Cellulitis of the leg.
Cellulitis is an acute bacterial infection of the subcutaneous and dermis tissue that is
characterized by redness, swelling, pain, and warmth (Todhunter, 2018). Cellulitis occurs when
there is a breach in the skin and bacteria, mostly streptococci or staphylococci, enter the body
and causes a localized infection. In this case, bacteria came into the body when the trimmer cut
his leg. The lack of properly cleaning the wound and treating it causes an inflammatory response
