, Introduction
• Health has different meaning with different
individuals and communities yet definition
should be inclusive and applicable to meet
health needs for all.
• The history of health care is as old as the
human race. People always took care of their
own health as well as loved ones. E.g they
provided care to people injured by wild beast
and warriors
,• People transmitted health messages to
relatives, friends and neighbors through songs,
dramas, poems and also tales in the evenings.
They practiced norms and taboos to protect
themselves from illness and solve their own
health problems individually and collectively.
• Health care delivery system has evolved in
history and WHO has steered the process over
the past six decades.
, Definition of terms
• Health- WHO refers to health as a state of complete
physical, mental and social well being and not merely
absence of disease and infirmity. Medically , health is
defined as freedom from disease and injury.
• Education- the knowledge, skills, and understanding
that you get from attending a school, college, or
university.
• Health education- process which brings about changes
in the knowledge and attitude of the people and
thereby affecting change in health practices. Can also
be defined as process of giving information, advice and
facilitating development of knowledge and skills in
order to change behavior.
